Flags, a Capture the Flag style sport.

Rules Matches Arenae Other

The following are effective arenae (a term used by Flags enthusiasts to signify more than one arena) in the region of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Feel free to suggest future potential arenae.

Parkallen (Primary, Big, Tournament Arenae, Multi-Team)
Braithwaite Park
Charles Simmonds Park
University of Alberta QUAD
Windsor Park
McKernan Park
Queen Elizabeth Park
West Edmonton Mall (I, II, III, IV, V)

Parkallen (6510 111 St, Edmonton, AB) (legend)

Parkallen
Flags has been played on this map more than anywhere else in the world. Parkallen is the primary location where Flags evolved into the sophisticated sport it is today. A classic Field/Forest map with a perfect ratio of bushy areas and fields.
Parkallen (big)
One side of the large parkallen map is slightly larger than the other, but this is offset by the greater number of bushes and trees on this side. Conveniently one of the jails is in the same location as the primary parkallen arena.
Parkallen Tournament Arenae
These three arenae will be used in any official Flags tournament at Parkallen. The primary tournament arena is Parkallen, but depending on the number of teams registered, Parkallen II and Parkallen III may be needed.
Parkallen Multi-Team
This arena may be used in culmination of an official Flags tournament. The top four teams would play at once using the multi-team modifications of Flags. The jails, out lines, and middle lines remain the same as in the Parkallen and Parkallen II arenae.

This triangular arena was inspired by a nearby manhunt match.

Please respect the neighbors in all ways when playing in this arena. Sand areas are out of bounds.

University of Alberta QUAD (114 St 91 Ave, Edmonton, AB)

The slightly larger version of this map was popularized by the famous U of A WoW (week of welcome) capture the flag game. This great central location in Edmonton is always available and easily accessable to many flags enthusiasts.

Windsor Park (89 Ave 118 St, Edmonton, AB) (legend)

Windsor Park
The large version of the Winsor Park arena can be quite dark as discovered on the Setpember 23rd match of 2007.

McKernan Park (112 St and 75 Ave, Edmonton, AB)

This arena has a very large middle line in comparison to its edges, which tends to encourage action and flag transfer.

Queen Elizabeth Park (10380 Queen Elizabeth Park Rd, Edmonton, AB) (legend)

A river valley arena with quite a varied terrain of bushes, hills, trees, grass, and even a marsh. Originally suggested by one of the sneakiest members of Team Awesome, Jaime Fong.

West Edmonton Mall (8882 170 St, Edmonton, AB)

Arena I
Both floors are used, one team gets the South side of the arena and one the North. A large 'no-man's-land' separates the two.
Arena II
One team's side is the upper floor, and the other is the lower floor. The escalators are 'no-man's-land' zones.
Arena III
A larger map that will probably not be used again (at least without some changes) due to the narrow corridors near the middle line.
Arena IV
To be used with the timed and multi-team modifications. Three teams are required to play this map.
Arena V
The largest West Edmonton Mall map includes everything except burbon street, top and bottom floors. The entire galaxy gateway corridor no-man's-land allows for two crossover areas to either side.
